Sunrise and grasses, Chesapeake Bay, Maryland.

The key to this photo is the very shallow depth of field. The object is to have one or two stems of grass in sharp focus against the out of focus rising sun. The disc of the sun appears larger on film the more out of focus it is; when completely out of focus, it is a soft glowing orb in the rear of the composition. And by metering with the sun in the viewfinder, you pick up shutter speed, the colors get darker, warmer, and more saturated, and you create an abstract and evocative image.

Just beautiful. I am in the Low Country all week long in South Carolina. Lovely change from the Midwest. Dense green everywhere with that lovely Spanish moss on all the gigantic oak trees.
