Echo & The Bunnymen – Lips Like Sugar
Friday night, former President George W. Bush and wife Laura Bush visited the soldiers wounded in the Ft Hood shootings.
Current Present b Hussein Obama took off for a relaxing weekend at Camp David.
I find it interesting to consider how the current Present* decides to comment on breaking news stories.
In July of this year, a black college professor- an acquaintance of the Present- was arrested for disorderly conduct by a white police officer. Obama’s reaction:
“I don’t know, not having been there and not seeing all the facts, what role race played,” Obama said Wednesday night while taking questions after a White House news conference.
Obama defended Gates on Wednesday night, while admitting that he may be “a little biased,” because Gates is a friend.
“But I think it’s fair to say, No. 1, any of us would be pretty angry; No. 2, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home; and, No. 3 … that there’s a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately.”
As in ‘I don’t know, I wasn’t there, but off the top of my head, I’d say… anger, stupid cops, and entrenched American racism.’
Fast forward to Thursday of this week when Nidal Malik Hasan, a US-born muslim and major in the US Army, killed 13 and wounded scores more at Fort Hood, Texas. Obama’s reaction:
“We don’t know all the answers yet and I would caution against jumping to conclusions until we have all the facts,” Obama said on the White House lawn.
In both cases, the Present admitted he did not have all the facts. Yet in the first case, he felt perfectly comfortable implying racism and blaming police. In the second, the Present apparently sees nothing unusual that jumps out at him about the incident, and cautions people against ‘jumping to conclusions’.
The Present accrues to himself that priviledge, I guess.
*When referring to Obama as ‘the Present’, I am alluding to his well-documented propensity to vote ‘present’ during his brief stays in the Illinois state and US legislature. Also, I find it ironic to leave out the ‘ID’, because so many are not satisfied on this aspect of the Present’s credentials and his eligibility for the office he currently occupies.
These are the facts as we know them right now:
It is also becoming apparent that Hasan was opposed to US efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan, and that this was known:
Federal law enforcement officials told the Associated Press that Hasan had come to their attention at least six months ago because of Internet postings that discussed homicide bombings and other threats. The officials said they are still trying to confirm that he was the author.
One of the Web postings that authorities reviewed is a blog that equates homicide bombers with a soldier throwing himself on a grenade to save the lives of his comrades.
“To say that this soldier committed suicide is inappropriate. Its more appropriate to say he is a brave hero that sacrificed his life for a more noble cause,” said the Internet posting. “Scholars have paralled (sic) this to suicide bombers whose intention, by sacrificing their lives, is to help save Muslims by killing enemy soldiers.”
They say an official investigation was not opened.
Retired Army colonel Terry Lee provided background:
Retired Col. Terry Lee, who said he had worked with Hasan, told Fox News he was being sent to Afghanistan.
Lee said Hasan had hoped Obama would pull troops out of Afghanistan and Iraq and got into frequent arguments with others in the military who supported the wars.
Ace Of Spades has a recent surveillance video of Hasan, on the US Army base, in muslim attire.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen SJH- ‘Sudden Jihadi Syndrome’. A US soldier in Kuwait- a muslim- killed 1 and wounded 15 in a grenade attack in 2003.
I want to know why we allow these muslims to serve in the US armed forces! Actually, I know the answer- they are US citizens, and if they have no criminal background, they are permitted to join the ranks. But the fact is, they are muslims first and Americans second. This is what their ‘religion’ teaches them- that any act, up to and including rape and murder, can be justified as ‘in defense of islam’.
Knowing this, muslims should not be allowed to join the military, law enforcement, fire and rescue services, the medical profession, or the education system. I consider every muslim in the United States to be a potential jihadi.
This morning, the evil muslim killer Nidal Malik Hasan is alive in a hospital in Texas. I hope he survives to stand trial, be convicted, and put to death.
What did the Present of the United States do last night- election night?
Did he call John Corzine in New Jersey and offer words of encouragement?
No.
Did he call Creigh Deeds in Virginia and tell him ‘hang in there’?
No.
No, the Present watched himself on HBO. Because he is just that awesome! He can’t take his eyes off of… himself.
UPDATE: it turns out this story isn’t accurate. But it feels true, or ‘truthy’, therefore it has inherent “truthiness“. So it stays.
Jetting off to Copenhagen to politic for the Chicago 2016 Summer Olympics bid?
Jetting off to Oslo to accept the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize?
Jetting off to Berlin to represent the United States of America at ceremonies marking the 20th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Cold War?
So last night, Republicans took back the governorships of Virginia and New Jersey. The Present of the United States personally campaigned on behalf of incumbent NJ governor John “Does this beard make me look like a pirate?” Corzine, yet still the Republican challenger won. And the GOP victory in Virginia was a straight-up blowout.
I had a few minutes to watch the morning cable news, so I decided in fairness to flip from Fox News over to MSNBC to see how the government-controlled media was covering these stories. Granted, this is just a snapshot of the coverage during the 8am Eastern time slot, but it told me something.
The first time I flipped to MSNBC, they weren’t talking politics- they were interviewing novelist John Grisham.
Back to Fox, where Congressman Eric Cantor (D-VA) was being interviewed out front of the Virginia statehouse.
A few minutes later, flipped back to MSNBC. Still not talking about politics- they were talking about Warren Buffet buying a railroad. A real-life “Monopoly” story, I guess.
But the very first thing I saw this morning was Democrat spinmeister Bob Beckel claiming ‘low turnout’ by voters, and how this was not an indicator of voter ‘anger’.
Angry enough though, Bob, to take back two governorships in states that voted for b Hussein Obama a year ago.
The San Rafael Swell is a vast area that straddles I-70 in central Utah. It’s a great place to go camping or 4-wheeling. It’s also a great place to see many examples of rock art left behind by the Anasazi, Fremont, Ute, and other prehistoric peoples of North America.
There are two kinds of rock art: petroglyphs, which are carvings in the rock; and pictographs, which are drawings on the rock. A figure or group of figures is often referred to as a panel.
(Left to right, top to bottom: Newspaper Rock NHS, Temple Mountain panel, The Lone Warrior, Sego Canyon panel, Buckhorn Draw panel, Moab/Potash Road panel.)
In June 2008, while hiking in Grand Wash, a slot canyon in Capitol Reef National Park, I found a shady rock alcove and sat down to take a break from the heat. Low on the rock face I was resting against, I saw the petroglyph seen in the photo below. The figure is about the size of my hand. I showed the photo to park rangers later that day, and they all agreed that 1) they had not seen it before, and 2) it was probably authentic. I gave them my name and email address and asked to be contacted after they had a chance to check it out. They never got back to me. Anyway, I think the glyph may be either a scorpion or a ring-tailed cat.

The Ravens sacked Denver QB Kyle Orton on the first play of the game, and it sort of set the tone for the rest of the afternoon. Baltimore played inspired defense all day; the Broncos couldn’t run the ball, but they made up for it by not passing it either. Baltimore also scored a special teams TD when they returned the opening kickoff of the 2nd half all the way for a score.
So- Baltimore improves to 4-3, and Denver falls from the unbeaten ranks to 6-1. Next week the Ravens travel to Cincinnati, and the Broncos will face the Pittsburgh Steelers November 9 at Mile High on Monday Night Football.
